When we think of wellness, we most often think of physical wellness. At Speakwell, we
believe there are other kinds of wellness such as financial wellness and community or
global wellness. To that end we are including a financial section in each issue along with
some very worthwhile causes under the heading of "Global Wellness" that we invite you
to consider. Take a look at each one and decide if there is something you could throw
your support behind.
"The concept of total wellness recognizes that our every thought, word, and behavior
affects our greater health and well-being. And we, in turn, are affected not only
emotionally but also physically and spiritually." :: Greg Anderson
Wellness by definition relates to physical well-being achieved through good diet and exercise. But there are some other types of wellness such as psychological wellness, emotional wellness, spiritual wellness and of course financial wellness.
To be financially well, you don't need to be a multi-millionaire or a financial expert. But like physical wellness achieved through diet and exercise, financial wellness also requires a purposeful effort on your part. But it's worth it! Financial wellness will give you a greater sense of security in this area of your life. It will allow you to better enjoy the other areas of your life such as relationships, work, retirement, and free time. Ultimately, financial wellness will give you more choices.
So what does it mean to be financially well? Essentially, being financially well means that you are able to meet your ongoing financial needs in good times as well as bad. It means that you are able to cover your expenses, and provide for those who depend on you. It also means that you have a long-term plan and are planning for your financial well-being beyond just today.
Over the next few months we will explore this area of your well-being a bit further. This will include laying a financial foundation, accumulating money for tomorrow, and leaving a legacy.
Just like physical fitness, anyone can learn to become financially well. And like physical wellness, financial wellness will help you lead a higher quality, less stressful life.

If you are unfamiliar with the Hunger Site website, it is a great one.
In less than a minute, by just clicking on six buttons once a day you can help six very worthwhile causes and IT IS FREE: Hunger, Breast Cancer, Child Health,
Literacy, Rainforest, Animal Rescue. The site is very self-explanatory with lots of
information provided for those who want to know how it works and who pays for
it. Once I was introduced to it, I decided that if I am going to eat every day then I
am going to help feed someone else every day. Since 1999, Feeding the Hungry
(as I refer to it) has become part of my non-negotiable daily routine. Please check
it out and then spread the word. As Mother Teresa said, "If you can't feed a
hundred people, then feed just one."
