Today it's tough times in many a town — so many in debt and so many living on credit.
Recently a rich tourist came to one of our little towns. He entered the only hotel, laid a $100 bill on the reception counter, and went upstairs to inspect the rooms.
The hotel proprietor took the $100 bill and ran to pay his debt to the butcher. The Butcher took the $100 bill, and ran to pay his debt to the pig grower. The pig grower took the $100 bill and ran to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel. The supplier of feed and fuel took the $100 bill and ran to pay his debt to the town's prostitute who, in these hard times, had given her services on credit. She ran to the hotel to pay off her debt with the $100 bill to the hotel proprietor for the rooms that she had rented for her 'servicing'.
The hotel proprietor then laid the $100 bill back on the counter. At that moment, the tourist returned and pocketed his $100 bill, not finding a room to his liking, and left the town.
No one earned anything. However, the entire town is now without debt and looks to the future with unbridled optimism ... it's kind of like government, isn't it?!
